JOSEF NEWGARDEN No. 2 ASTEMO CHEVROLET
Start: 10th, Finish: 4th, Points: 5th (-75)
RACE RUNDOWN: Josef Newgarden and the No. 2 Astemo Chevrolet team delivered a strong fourth-place finish in Saturday’s Sonsio Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. Starting 10th, Newgarden narrowly avoided trouble in the opening corner but quickly settled in and continued his charge forward. After restarting 12th, he climbed to ninth by Lap 13 while carefully managing rear tire wear. He made his first stop on Lap 19 for Firestone red tires with no changes, cycling out to restart sixth. Maintaining a steady pace throughout the stint, Newgarden was running fifth by Lap 40 before pitting from that position on Lap 47. He continued to show strong speed and consistency over the second half of the race, ultimately securing a fourth-place finish at the checkered flag.
NEWGARDEN'S THOUGHTS: "It's a pretty good day. It's not a great day, but, you know, fourth, we can work with that. Good points, which is good. Now we get to go the other way. So, yeah, I'm proud of the team. The team was amazing on the pit stop strategy. That's really what made our day. We had some decent speed, not race winning speed, but I think top five for sure. So, we probably finished about where our potential was, which, you know, I don't want my potential and our potential to be fourth, but some days, I guess, you have got to take that. So, we're chipping away at getting back in front."
