Tokyo, September 29, 2026 – Astemo Ltd. (hereafter "Astemo") announced that a race bike equipped with its next-generation front-end system earned Pole Position at the Superbike Race in Okayama held on September 27. The system embodies the company's Harmonized Function Design concept, integrating front-wheel components that include the front fork and front brake. The machine was fielded by Astemo Pro Honda SI Racing, which competes in one of Japan's premier motorcycle racing categories.(JSB1000)
Astemo’s Harmonized Function Design system is a unique development concept that aims to enhance overall vehicle performance through the cross-functional, integrated design of vehicle components, which have traditionally been developed independently. In the next-generation front-end system, the axle section of SHOWA front forks and NISSIN brake calipers are designed as a unified system to reduce weight, improve cooling performance, and optimize rigidity.
First unveiled as a concept at EICMA 2024, Astemo has steadily evolved the system for racing applications, leveraging the combined expertise of its SHOWA suspension and NISSIN braking brands. Following refinements through circuit testing, in 2025 Astemo developed a second-generation model, which incorporated additional improvements in weight reduction, cooling performance and rigidity that led to greater braking stability and improved vehicle dynamics under racing conditions.
As a result of the enhancements, this model was adopted by Astemo Pro Honda SI Racing, which earned Pole Position in its racing debut. Although Astemo secured Pole Position in qualifying, it retired from the final race. However, the race provided valuable insights under actual operating conditions and served as an important milestone in further evaluating the performance of Harmonized Function Design.
Astemo will continue to advance the Harmonized Function Design development concept by applying insights gained under the demanding conditions of motorcycle racing. Through these efforts, the company remains committed to delivering higher-performance and higher-value-added products for motorcycles.
